Waterproofing and Air Barrier Tested for Air Infiltration Rate

Work continues in Jacksonville at University of North Florida.

Air Infiltration Testing was called for in the project documents as part of the field quality control testing procedures to ensure the building envelope performed as designed.

Lots of critical building envelope details are being tested to ensure the water penetration resistance of the design is met.

Metal panels will cover the fluid applied air barrier/waterproofing.

Recon Independent Assessments provides quality field testing services in Florida & Nationwide.

Radius Curtain Wall & Storefront Systems Test Well at University of Florida

The Levin Law Advocacy Center in Gainesville, FL was recently tested using both ASTM E-783 & ASTM E-1105 test protocols. The test subject, a radius curtain wall passed the field testing with flying colors.

AAMA 501.2 Field Quality Control checks were also performed on another curtain wall and storefront systems in other areas of the structure. Again, successful results were achieved.

Recon Independent Assessments will be on site in Gainesville on another project before month's end.
If we can assist your project team with field testing services, let us know.

Moisture Mapping Survey with Sliding Glass Door and Window Installation Validation

Recon Independent Assessments had the pleasure of joining the team conducting an exterior re-cladding project along the beach in Virginia Beach. A couple of long days were required to overcome the obstacles presented by working in an environment where occupants were present.
ASTM E-783 and ASTM E-1105 testing was conducted throughout the 15 story condominium. Four types of fenestration were encountered.

A comprehensive survey was conducted throughout many of the individual units in the structure to assist in understanding potential sources of water intrusion from a recent nor'easter that affected the area with high winds and rain.
Recon Independent Assessments is available for your project.

More Frequent Testing Can Never Hurt

Recon Independent Assessments is not an AAMA Accredited Laboratory, nor does it plan to become one in the forseable future...

Recon provides truly third party field testing of fenestration for air infiltration and water penetration and holds the belief that ASTM consensus standards are the true measure of field performance.

In a recent article detailing AAMA's summer meeting the pros and cons of testing products manufactured by members was discussed.

Our thoughts on the issue are simple:

Test, test, test...

A building and it's owner and occupants deserve it.

Lab testing is very important. Field testing installations is even more important.

The interface between a building's substrates and installed windows, curtain walls, and storefronts is by far the weakest link in the production of a watertight envelope.

Recon Independent Assessments provides testing on projects nationwide. Contact us today to receive a proposal for testing services.

Testing 101: The ASTM E 783

ASTM E783

Commonly known as the “Air-Infiltration test”, this test provides information that can assist in determining thermal transfer rates, energy efficiency and plain and simple ….. quality of the window products or installation, Good stuff to know as the cost of heating and cooling continues to rise, additionally; if air is transferring into and out of your building, it is bringing moisture and other unwanted elements into your work and living areas.

Air infiltration -- it is a problem in most every building. Not only is it costly, but for the people who live or work in a drafty environment it can be uncomfortable as well.
It is easy to understand air infiltration. In the summer, heat may enter a building through small cracks around windows, doors and other openings. Of course, air conditioned air escapes from these same cracks. In the winter, this problem is compounded by something known as "chimney" or "stack" effect.

Essentially, hot air rises and escapes through the openings near the top of the structure while cold air is drawn in through cracks or openings near the bottom of the building. The chimney effect can cause air movement as high as 10 m.p.h.!
Every cubic foot of infiltrated air will be heated or cooled at your expense. Over the course of a year, the additional energy costs really add up. But, it is not necessary to settle for a drafty environment.

If your project Specifications call for field testing for Air Infiltration, Recon Independent Assessments has the solution for you at a price point that will keep the bean counters happy.
