How Long to Perform an AAMA 501.2 Test

Available Nationwide

A Field Quality Control Check, the AAMA 501.2 is a great tool for checking the success of an ongoing installation of curtain wall or storefront.

A common mistake however is to use the AAMA 501.2 as an acceptance test in new construction.  To perform an acceptance field quality control test, the best procedure is an ASTM E-1105.

How Do You Determine The Length of An AAMA 501.2 ?

Total perimeter length measurement + total intermediate framing length measurement = Total linear length of test subject.

The AAMA 501.2 is administered at a rate of 5' per 5 minutes of spray application.

Example:

  • Curtain Wall sample is 25 feet in length by 16 feet high.

  • There are three vertical frame members within the section and two horizontal frame members.

  • Horizontal Frame = 100 ft

  • Vertical Frame = 80 ft

  • Total Linear Test Subject = 180 ft

180 ft @ 5 ft per 5 minutes = 3 hours to perform the Quality Control Check / AAMA 501.2
